Dodd, Hoskins & Lowe

Vickie Dodd, James Hoskins and Farrell Lowe explore new musical territory that is at once organic and otherworldly. Together, they spontaneously generate improvised soundscapes that defy description. Their new album, Komorebi, was recorded live in Boulder, Colorado early in 2023. It is their first as a trio.

Vickie is a vocalist, a pioneer in the art of sound healing and a musician who has taught and performed internationally. She intuitively draws inspiration from the people and environment around her, channeling this into improvised vocalization, with a four-octave range that spans throat singing and many other techniques.

The unique human connection of Vickie’s voice is matched by James Hoskins on cello. A prolific artist whose work has ranged from classical, free improvisation, jazz and Eastern European to experimental, James joins polished technique with a soft instinctual touch that is rare among classically-trained musicians. They’ve known each other and guitar luminary Farrell Lowe for over 25 years. Farrell is a versatile experimentalist who has performed and recorded with many musical partners,

All three musicians appear prominently in other corners of the Right Brain Records catalogue:

Vickie is featured on Edge City Collective’s mind-bending album Cosmosongs.

James is one third of the world fusion power trio Ping Pong Pang.

Farrell is an essential part of the free jazz phenomenon SeFa LoCo.

Found Sound, an earlier collaboration of Vickie and James, captures the emergent magic of their musical connection.
